As part of the Product Development team, the Senior Product Development Engineer will be responsible for concept, planning, design and execution of new product and existing product enhancements. Will work with electrical engineer, industrial designers, and the operations team in defining and executing the products mechanical goals and requirements. Will define the new product brief with the design team, identifying early in the design process, any mechanical limitations, and challenges. Conduct extensive research on materials and methods specified in the brief and conduct theoretical proof of concept analysis prior to preparing engineering models. Following the research stage, will begin production of preliminary mechanical models, while working closely with the electrical engineering and industrial design teams. During this process will work with the Operations team and with vendors to get preliminary pricing on critical components key to the mechanical design. Will prepare detailed mechanical drawings for each component, as well as producing complete assembly drawings. Will use in-depth knowledge of metal properties and production processes to properly define the materials and production methods of each component in the new product. Will use Solidworks PDM to manage product BOMs and for model revisions throughout product design iterations. Will be responsible for the product prototyping and testing stage. Will assist in the proper procurement of samples and oversee production during the production of any components produced in house. Will use 3D printing tools available at Juniper to ensure efficient production of prototypes. Manage alpha and beta prototypes and using results to modify engineering models is a critical and time-consuming part of the position. It requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills and developed managerial skills in order to engage the different teams involved in new product development. From time to time, the Senior Product Development Engineer will be responsible for managing smaller custom client requests that typically involve mechanical modifications of existing products. This is a meaningful part of the Juniper business model and requires the input of the engineering team. Will work with the Industrial Engineer in the Design for Manufacture stage to ensure products are engineered to meet efficient production metrics.

1 year of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing in the light and consumer product industry, custom lighting fixtures, use of Solidworks and CAD, and creation of CNC files.
MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
