At Hearst Newspapers our world-class local and regional sales organization has been integral to this success. We are seeking an experienced Senior Director of Product Marketing to fuel our continued growth for many years to come. This analytical and passionate marketer will develop and execute new growth initiatives focused on key vertical, geographical, and audience segments within our Connecticut and Albany, NY markets. Initiatives will include developing messaging and positioning for a new digital ad experience, creating sales enablement assets (i.e. sales presentations, case studies), producing thought leadership pieces, building pricing models, etc.

As a newly formed position and marketing lead for our Times Union and Hearst Connecticut Media Group organizations, this role represents a unique opportunity to build out a highly strategic function from scratch and have a direct impact on sales growth. Key elements to success in this role include strong collaboration with sales, data oriented strategic planning, intellectual curiosity for local market and business trends, exceptional positioning development skills, and a highly motivated self-starter mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Sales Materials:
    • Perform market and internal research to develop sales and marketing collateral that highlights Hearsts unique value proposition and ensures HCMG is viewed as a must-buy.
    • Define HCMG tone, messaging, services, and solutions to guide the development of sales collateral and tools that help educate prospects and achieve revenue objectives.
  • Identify & DriveRevenue-Generating Opportunities:
    • Contribute to the development and positioning of new opportunities to bring to the marketplace; including, but not limited to, cross-platform ad products, third-party partners or vendors, events, or experiences.
    • In collaboration with the SVP and Digital Ad Sales teams, proactively create market-ready sales packages inclusive of supporting research, value proposition, and pricing strategies.
    • Establish first-to-market, cross-platform ad product experiences that will serve as compelling thought-starters for client conversations and result in closed business.
    • Work lockstep with editorial team to develop sellable content franchises, series or annual tentpoles (ie. Best of CT)
    • Own product launch function: plan, create and lead the launch of new product releases or service offerings, and manage the cross-functional implementation of the plan.
  • Assist with New Business Development:
    • Lead internal brainstorm sessions with all essential stakeholders to determine and combat product pain points through positioning, packaging, or execution.
    • Respond to client RFPs with customized, measurable, creative solutions.
    • Assist sales team in presenting creative solutions to client.
    • Oversee activation and fulfillment of demand generation campaigns on an as-needed basis; including events, inbound lead program, list building, lead nurturing, etc.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in a strategic marketing role at a progressive media or technology company.
  • Experience in effective strategic planning and collaboration with sales, design teams, and product management.
  • Strong experience with Salesforce.com or equivalent CRM.
  • Strong experience setting strategy and executing content marketing programs.
  • Experience developing pricing and go-to-market incentives for a package-based product set.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Passionate and focused.
  • Relentless and hardworking.
  • College degree required, MBA preferred.
  • Travel required 2 days / month to our Albany, NY or Norwalk, CT office location.
