Payment Strategy Director Opportunity Overview

The Payment Strategy Director will be responsible for the bank's overall vision and execution of payments capabilities. This role will leverage knowledge of the payments industry to identify problems, communicate with key stakeholders on solutions, prioritize features, plan the roadmap, and participate in bringing new capabilities to market. This critical role will develop our overall strategic vision and ensure payments strategy aligns with bank needs and goals. This role partners with key stakeholders from our Treasury Management, Digital Banking, IT, Product, Marketing, Risk, Operations, Legal and Compliance teams to scale our Payments infrastructure. The Director of Payment Strategy & Operations is the leader of our Payment Operations team, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the departments. This role acts as an advisor to management on strategic transactions. This requires strong leadership to drive operational excellence, while focused on the transformation of strategic initiatives.

As a Payment Strategy Director with Banner Bank you will have the opportunity to:

  • Act as the strategic and tactical owner of the bank s payment strategy, developing the payments roadmap and communicating strategic goals to cross-functional teams. Independently own key strategic initiatives from initial concept through execution and success measurement. Provide payments-specific expertise, direction, and leadership on company-wide initiatives and projects.
  • Oversee daily payment operations functions, including functional leadership of wires, ACH, foreign exchange, cash services, unclaimed property, and other designated roles.
  • Drive initiatives forward by partnering with key Business, Operations, and Technology stakeholders. Steer quantitative and qualitative efforts into financial and operational drivers to prevent losses associated with fraud, disputes, claims, and payment issues. Determine the approach for innovating and building key competencies in-house or identifying and cultivating strong strategic partnerships.
  • Assess products, services, and technologies, and systems that are appropriate to scale, collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute on our strategy, and implement new tools processes and tools as necessary. Build clear and concise presentations that summarize your findings and lead to clear recommendations.
  • Provide leadership to our established Payment Operations team. Build the team and skills vital to support long-term growth and to meet the needs of our payment stakeholders and clients.
  • Develop and maintain controls related to Payments and Operations processes and support varied organizational, regulatory, and audit needs. Partner with internal stakeholders for strategic and tactical payments risk and fraud mitigation. Remain pro-active and informed of all regulatory or policy changes to ensure that bank operations can pivot quickly and accurately with minimal impacts to clients or bank reputation.
  • Take a leading role in interfacing with key payments processing partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Bachelor s Degree Business, Finance, Accounting, Communications, Technology, or related field or equivalent relative experience required

Experience

  • More than 8 years in progressive experience (minimum of 10 years) in banking, operations, payments, or IT, at least 8 of which include project leadership and implementation of new processes or technologies required
  • More than 8 years in experience overseeing, developing, and maintaining operational teams within a professional organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to build relationships, influence others, and work cross-functionally with various senior collaborators (e.g. Business, Product, Technology, Operations, Finance, Compliance, Legal) to define, prioritize, and deliver projects.
  • Familiarity with the payments ecosystem, knowledge of emerging trends, and experience interfacing with critical third-party services.
  • Strong analytical and execution background - demonstrated experience gathering data from various sources and driving strategic insight and decision-making. Leverages experience, business knowledge and creative and collaborative thinking to lead to impactful outcomes.
  • Proven ability and experience designing and implementing new systems, processes, and procedures and utilization of up to date and innovative technology. Experience in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, roadmaps and solutions.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to Banking and Information Technology. Proven ability to understand and respond to regulatory changes.
  • Excellent people leadership and communication skills with the ability to drive strategic direction while also allowing for individual autonomy and accountability.

  • Targeted starting salary range (based on location and experience): $158,000 - $234,000
