Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the Early Years Centre Director is responsible for the overall management and administration of the Early Years Centre and Smart Play Program connected to that program. This includes supporting daily operations which are integrated within a short- and longer-term program planning framework. While maintaining high quality programming, the Director acts as a pedagogical leader and must develop positive relationships with the children, families, staff, and the broader community. The Director is expected to respect the organizational culture while advancing the overall mission and goals of CHANCES Family Centre.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Program Support

Ensuring the implementation and monitoring of high-quality child-development programs at the Early Years Centre and Smart Play programs;
Creating an environment that is most conducive to meeting the needs of children and parents/caregivers attending programs. This includes ensuring a respectful, safe, and nurturing environment for the children and families with whom they work;
Utilizing a team approach with the staff for whom you are responsible;
Utilizing evaluation results along with other information sources to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the program;
Ensuring the Provincial Curriculum is implemented and monitored.
Working with the Bridges Coach to complete ECERS-R, ITERS and SACERS evaluations within the Centre and assisting in the development of action plans.

2. Staff Supervision and Support:

Providing direct supervision and support to all staff working in the Early Years Centre and Smart Play programs. This includes ensuring that the policies outlined in the CHANCES Family Centre Employee Handbook are followed and conducting annual performance reviews with each staff member;
Identifying training needs, along with seeking training opportunities for staff;
Contributing to a supportive team environment by utilizing the appropriate lines of communication to solve issues and challenges;
Participating in regular team meetings;
Facilitating staff training as needed;
Ensuring monthly supervision of the staff occurs and is documented.

3. Supporting Parents:

Building a relationship of trust; mutual respect and caring for children and parents/caregivers who attend CHANCES programs;
Respecting parents/caregivers values and attitudes as well as understanding their different approaches to parenting;
Communicating openly and effectively with parents/caregivers;
Exchanging information with parents/caregivers and supporting them on behalf of the child;
Interacting with parents/caregivers in a positive way, when they have difficulty leaving a child;
Maintaining open communication with parents/caregivers by encouraging them to express the goals and desires for their children;
Involving parents/caregivers in every aspect of the program, recognizing their different abilities, needs, and capacities;
Introducing new families to CHANCES programs, helping them feel welcome and comfortable in the environment and outlining CHANCES program policies;
Ensuring information about parent information sessions are well circulated to families and promote attendance at appropriate sessions.

4. Administration

Maintaining staff/child ratio, staff work schedule, and scheduling casual staff as required;
Approving bi-weekly staff working hours, maintaining the documentation of
benefits granted and taken by each staff person, and providing this information to the office management team;
Completing and submitting all child care subsidy documentation, special needs applications, special needs grant documentation to the appropriate member of the office management team;
Completing and submitting on a weekly basis all required documentation in regard to billing to the office management team such as attendance and billing;
Monitoring payments from families, working within the parameters of the payment policy to promote payment of fees, and informing the office management team of

Required Skills

  • 2-year college degree in Early Childhood Education; must be able to obtain an Early Childhood Director Certificate
  • First aid and food safety required and must be kept current

Required Experience

3 years experience in the early learning field; including experience in an Early Years Supervisory role.
