Provides courteous professional service to all Town technology users, serving as one of the most visible faces of the Information Technology Department, so that they can efficiently provide services to the community. Responsible for resolving all problems in the field to successful conclusion, consulting with team members and Systems/Network Engineers as needed, to provide superb customer service.

Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Installs, troubleshoots, and resolves all technology support needs for all computers and associated peripherals, and devices connected to the Town network, such as desktop and laptop computers, VOIP telephones, network switches, uninterruptible power supplies, security cameras and recorders, HVAC control systems, authorized "Internet-of-things" devices, printers, copiers, scanners.
  • Assists end users in the use of ordinary desktop applications such as the Microsoft Office suite, online meeting software, other common desktop software products, etc.
  • Works with the Public Safety and Library support staff to support and advocate Microsoft operating systems and desktop applications, and utilizes Microsoft deployment tools to deliver consistent, secure, reliable computing devices to all Town departments, including Police and Fire Departments and the Libraries (but does not include the school system).
  • Installs and/or replaces infrastructure devices such as wireless radios, uninterruptible power supplies, network switches, network cables and outlets, VOIP telephones, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of all computers, laptops, printers, scanners, and copiers to ensure appropriate software licensing and inclusion in a replacement cycle.
  • Trains, supervises, and effectively utilizes high-school and college-level seasonal technical support staff.
Qualifications

Demonstrates courtesy, professionalism, cheerfulness, helpfulness at all times. Demonstrated experience in the installation and troubleshooting of computers, networks, peripherals, and software in a modern technology environment. Ability to work as a team member and independently to brainstorm solutions to complex problems. Desire and ability to learn and become highly proficient in various municipal software systems. Excellent interpersonal skills and writing skills; communicates with co-workers and clients effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university in a computer science, technical, mathematical, engineering, or scientific field.
  • More than three years of progressive experience providing customer support to end users.
  • Must pass CJIS background check as is required to support certain Police Department systems.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in order to operate a vehicle as necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties at various sites within the Town.
  • Certifications in Microsoft operating systems and applications preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise-grade network equipment, email security gateways, message archivers, VoIP telephones, SQL databases preferred.
