Raith America, Inc. operates two New York locations, Islandia and Troy, yet most of our staff are located outside New York and close to our customers. Our growing customer community and our trusted staff retiring motivate our full-time position for Customer Application and Support Engineer.

Responsibilities
  • Provide first-line and second-level escalation remote and on-site support for hardware and software related issues on Raith Nanofabrication systems
  • Utilize technical expertise to gather and interpret system data to solve complex system and applications issues quickly and effectively
  • Perform instrument installations and upgrades in the field
  • Provide regular status updates to Supervisor and Customer, including accompanying documentation
  • Communicate with colleagues and Customers at a professional and proactive level
  • Become an expert in supporting Raith systems through our extensive training program (utilizing in-house service tools, factory training programs, and peer-to-peer training) and through real-world experiences
  • Provide training and support to Raith staff and Customers
  • Primarily support Customers in the Baltimore/DC area working out of your home office, but must have a willingness to travel to Customer locations in the Americas and occasionally to the Raith factory in Germany for training

Qualifications
  • Exceptional team working and communication skills are critically important as well as the individual being solution driven and customer oriented
  • High-level problem-solving skills and troubleshooting methodology
  • Experience in servicing equipment (installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs)
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment and hands on experience with scientific instrumentation
  • Preferred experience in these areas: high voltage, vacuum systems, laser alignments, and/or SEM / FIB operation
  • Advanced US Military electronics training, or a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in an Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or Science related field. Certifications in cleanroom equipment is also welcomed.

Essential Functions And Physical Requirements
  • Ability to drive to/from Customer sites and fly on airplanes – must have a valid drivers’ license and passport at all times.
  • Walking/standing may be required for 65-75% of the workday
  • Occasional sitting/squatting/kneeling on floor for short intervals
  • Occasional climbing and standing on step stools for short intervals
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, push and pull 20-40 pounds occasionally; may be required to lift 60 lbs (rarely).
  • Ability to bend, squat, stretch, and reach on a daily basis, for extended periods of time, in a service function.
  • Frequent hand activity (gripping, pushing, pinching, fine finger movement, typing). This includes the ability to manipulate small hand tools for extended periods of time in confined spaces.
  • May be in areas with varying levels of noise, vibration, electromagnetic fields, and sharp edges.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required. Example: cleanroom attire (lab coat, hood, hairnet, shoe covers, and/or safety gloves)
  • Psychological demands include working under pressure/deadlines, multitasking, attention to detail, controlling pace of work, working alone or in groups, working irregular hours and traveling.
  • Ability to travel overnight at a minimum of 25%
  • Ability to travel locally at a minimum of 50%
  • Sensory demands include hearing, speech, color vision, near vision and spatial perception.
  • May pass through areas where chemical based products may be in use and must follow all preventive measures regarding these materials.
